My friends regularly complain of their cat dandruff problems. It’s a nuisance that affects most of us cat lovers, and if you have a cat, it’s a matter of time before you have to look into it.

But worry not, there is cat dandruff treatment that you can try without taking an expensive trip to the vet, just by observing the symptoms and environment and taking action based on these symptoms.

This is what I got from the excellent website Cat Dandruff Away

A lot of cat dandruff issues are invariably linked to three things:

    1. You have an aged or overweight cat with dandruff on her rump or tail

If you have a pet that is overweight or has gained weight suddenly and dandruff on her rump and tail, most likely she’s unable to reach these areas to clean herself. This is also a problem for old cats that no longer have the mobility to groom themselves.

Just carry on and brush your cat and you might want to think about grooming her every couple of months. If you decide to bathe your cat, please do not use human shampoos as that might dry her skin further and worsen the condition. Always use a cat shampoo and don’t forget to clean thoroughly as remaining shampoo stuck on her undercoat may begin the problem all over again.

    2. The weather is cold and dry

If your cat only has dandruff issues in winter, then it could be the result of the cold and dry weather. To compond the problem, a lot of cats like to lay about in the warm comforts of the fireplace, which rapidly dries her skin causing it to flake.

Simply move her away from the fireplace regularly and see if the problem persists. Purchasing a humidifier would be not a bad idea, both for your feline friend and also yourself (humans get dry skin too…)

    3. My cat is neither overweight nor aged, and the weather is really sunny now

If your cat is still plagued with dandruff, a change in furniture might be the cause A new carpet perhaps? Take a look if there are any changes to her surroundings that she might be affected by and try to make the required adjustments.

If all three solutions still don’t work, it’s ok, take a look at this comprehensive step by step cure for cat dandruff.
